Bobo opened his first hot dog location in the 1950s at 8258 W. Irving Park Road. He expanded by setting up mobile stands around Chicago but he always had his flagship store on the northwest side.

It was eventually taken over by Phyllis Bartell in the 1970s and it’s been a family owned operation ever since. She continued the tradition of creating authentic Chicago-style hotdogs along with serving other favorites. All of the menu items are homemade and cooked up daily including hand-cut French fries, meatballs, chili, and the beef sandwiches, which are cooked and sliced on-site. Not many places put in this extra effort into their food but we know you’ll be able to taste the difference.

The neighborhood may have looked different over the years but the source for an original Chicago-style hot dog has never changed. Saturdays are said to be reunions when many of the long-time customers stop in to catch up. August is also a time when Bob-O’s hosts a custom auto show where long-time customers from all over the country stop by to show off their vintage cars.
The Vienna Hot Dog Company elected Bob-O's to their Hall of Fame in 2006. They were awarded the Best Beef award by Chicago Magazine in 1978 and again by WGN in 2024. They were also featured on ABC 7's Hungry Hound and in the book, “Never Put Ketchup on a Hot Dog”.
